What is CPET?

Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing

It measures how efficiently your body uses oxygen during exercise, the gold standard of fitness testing i.e. your VO2max. Get insights into your heart, lungs, and muscle performance to understand your true endurance potential.

WHY SHOULD YOU GET ONE?

A CPET test helps you understand your true VOâ‚‚max and endurance potential, so you can train smarter instead of harder. It pinpoints the right heart rate zones for maximum efficiency, shows how well your body uses oxygen, and highlights both aerobic and anaerobic limits. Most importantly, it helps you spot fatigue or recovery issues early—keeping you on track to perform at your best.

HOW IT'S DONE

The VOâ‚‚max test is conducted on a treadmill, where the athlete exercises at gradually increasing intensity while wearing a face mask connected to a metabolic cart.

The mask measures oxygen intake and carbon dioxide output, while heart rate is continuously monitored. The test continues until the athlete reaches exhaustion or their oxygen uptake plateaus, indicating their VOâ‚‚max.

This safe, supervised test typically lasts 8–12 minutes and provides detailed insights into aerobic-anaerobic capacity and overall fitness.
